WIAW: Game Day!

It’s been TOO LONG since I’ve posted a WIAW! Thanks to Laura at Sprint 2 the Table for hosting.

Pre-Workout Snack

I almost always have 1/2 banana pre-workout. I find it the perfect amount of energy to hold me over.

My workout was an oldie but a goodie, borrowed from Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers.

Breakfast

Overnight oats! This was ~1/3 cup oats, almond/coconut milk, chia seeds, nonfat plain Greek yogurt, cinnamon, figs, strawberries, pecans, and Kashi cinnamon cereal.


Lunch

My mini Bento box lunch. Celery and carrots with hummus, low fat mozzarella, a hard boiled egg, and a piece of whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread.


Pre-Softball Snack

We had a company softball game (so fun!) scheduled for 6:15, and I knew I wouldn’t have time to eat dinner beforehand. I enjoyed this Peanut Crisp Oatmega Bar around 3:00.

I was looking forward to this stir fry since the weekend! It’s cauliflower rice (LOVE!), rotisserie chicken, bell peppers, and Lacinato kale. So easy, super healthy, low carb, and totally satisfying.


Other Snacks

Guess who went to Trader Joe’s this weekend! These chocolates are SO YUMMY. The perfect mix of salty, sweet, chewy, and crunchy.

Okay, this was kind of an impulse buy. It’s so random, but so good. Pickle flavored popcorn. It tastes exactly how it sounds!

Unpictured: I had one beer after softball with my colleagues. Our team is pretty awful, but we’re getting better every week, AND we’re having a great time!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. If my pee isn’t clear by 12 pm, I feel like I’m failing. The struggle between drinking coffee & drinking water in the morning is real.

2. Given a bowl of Dum-Dum pops, I will always choose the mystery flavor. Because, you know, I’m a woman of adventure.

3. I wish there were an “undo” button for eating. Ctrl-Z! Ctrl-Z!

4. Parenthood Season 6 — Someone help me find it! I’m hooked. 😀

PARENTHOOD

5. I’m an official Texan now… kind of. I finally got around to getting my Texas driver’s license! Plus, one of the most Texas guys I know called me a “Texan” the other day. Does that make it official?!

6. They’re building an In N’ Out Burger and a Shake Shack on my street. (!!!) South Austin residents with both an East Coast and West Coast background like me can rejoice. 🙂

7. Booking flights is a game, but not a fun one. Enough said.

8. T-minus one week until my best friend arrives in town! Can’t wait to spend a long weekend with this lady.

9. Rooftop yoga is back at Whole Foods, and I couldn’t be more excited. Practicing outside while the sun is setting is one of the coolest yoga experiences I’ve had.

10. Everybody’s all like, “A woman shouldn’t run for president,” but I’m just like, “Carlson Daly shouldn’t be on the Today Show. Amirite?! So weird.

That’s my end of the week brain dump. We’re almost to Friday, guys! Keep fighting the good fight. Talk soon!

Marvelous Monday ~ Simple Pleasures

Coming off of a busy, sunny, reflective sort of weekend, I realized I’m in a strange period in my life.

Basically just starting out on my own, I make tons of mistakes (but I hope I learn from them). I second guess everything. I ask for advice. When it comes to mostly everything, I’m figuring it out as I go.

In some ways, I’m a different person than I was a year, two years, five years ago.

But one thing I hope I always carry with me is the ability to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. They are what makes life marvelous.

IMG_5622Marvelous is… dog sitting this little one. I was watching Stevie while my friend Casey was out of town. She was a riot! She followed me around everywhere, making herself more than comfortable in my bed, car, etc.

Thinking Out Loud~

Oh my gosh, it’s Friday Eve. I’m so thankful because I’m beyond ready for a weekend!

It’s also South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, and while I don’t have a wristband or anything, there are some free events going on that I’m excited to check out. But back to the task at hand … rambling!

Thanks to Amanda @ Running with Spoons for hosting one of my favorite linkups where I don’t have to organize my thoughts. My brain stopped working a long time ago anyways.

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. I never want to wish time away, but I’m so ready for March to be over. March was always kind of a poopy month, other than the beginning of Spring. To me it’s just cold and too transitional. No good holidays, either — sorry, St. Patrick.

2. But May is going to be amazing! I’ve got the Dave Matthews concert, Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, and a super-long birthday weekend at home to look forward to. Yay for May! 🙂

3. “The deep end is where you prove to yourself that you can swim.” This is a quote that I’ve been telling myself so much lately — particularly in a work context. I first saw the quote on a Free People graphic.

4. I’m excited to get back on my yoga mat. Free classes on the Whole Foods roof should be starting up again soon, and that’s my favorite thing ever.

5. Sooo, I quit my Blogilates challenge with 1 week left. But no regrets. I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of it, and now I’ve cleared up my schedule to work out more efficiently. Back on my HIIT & strength training game!

6. I feel like a new woman. I got my eyebrows done today, and I’m getting my hair cut tonight. I’m so groomed.

7. CCK’s protein black bean brownies are my life. With the addition of my food processor, I can see these being a weekly occurrence in my food prep. Soo fudgy and good, but she’s right – you need the choco chips. ; )

8. After last weekend, Expo West is so on my bucket list. I’d love to go one day! Did anyone get to go?

WIAW – What I Ate Before Going Vegan

I mentioned yesterday that I would be going vegan for Lent. That means that yesterday, Fat Tuesday, was my last chance to eat anything & everything non-vegan before spending 40 days plant-based.

So what did I eat before going vegan? A burger? A steak? Sushi? Ice cream?

Surprisingly, I didn’t crave any of those things. Here’s a look at what I ate before going vegan!

WIAW – The Old and The New

Out with the old, in with the new. Well, okay… not all the old. Or all the new. Whatever – when it comes to food, I like what I like. =)

It’s What I Ate Wednesday! Easily the best day in the blog world. Not that we don’t always share all the good stuff we eat. But Wednesday’s a whole day dedicated to it.

wiawThis week I’m sharing a variety of breakfasts, lunches & dinners. Some old, some new. What I’m nottttt showing you is the dozens of quest bars, spoonfuls of peanut butter, glasses of wine and handfuls of dark chocolate chips I also ate over the course of the week. Whatever, I ain’t perfect.

But hopefully I’ll be getting where I need to be with help from Blogilates. I’ll be sure to track my progress here. Now, on to the good stuff.

WIAW – Yogurt on Toast

When it comes to breakfast, I’m a bit of a creature of habit. I rotate between oatmeal variations (baked, regular or overnight) & toast with allll the toppings.

Lately, sprouted wheat toast or a TJ’s English muffin has been hitting the spot! I top 1/2 with peanut butter/banana/cinnamon, and the other 1/2 with nonfat plain Greek yogurt and berries.

I switch it up by adding hemp seeds, chia seeds, sliced almonds, or broiled Quest bar chunks. So delicious!

Long Weekend Ahead — Friday Faves

Barney’s ‘Bare’ Almond Butter, which I won in a giveaway from my girl Brittany @ Freckled Nettles. I finished off the jar  yesterday with these amazing overnight oats, but I miss it already! </3 I’m thinking a trip to the store is needed ASAP…

My Pennsylvania state necklace. I see so many Texas shaped ones, so I got my own! I love that I can wear a little piece of home at all times.


IMG_4484New makeup from Sephora & Birchbox. After Christmas, I stocked up on some new makeup – Urban Decay eyeliner, Laura Mercier concealer, Coastal Scents eyeshadow, and an Anastasia eyebrow pencil (sounds creepy but this is CLUTCH!). A lot of the time, the high end stuff is worth the investment.

Oatmega protein bars. Have you guys heard of Oatmega? They’re based here in Austin, and their bars have an awesome nutritional profile — 14g of grass-fed whey protein, 7g of fiber, and only 5g of sugar per bar! Brownie is my favorite flavor, but the chocolate mint is very Thin Mint-esque if that’s your thang.

Coffee by the fire at a local hangout. That’s what it’s all about! : ) I particularly love this place because they sell beer, coffee and tacos. Um, can’t beat that! I’m typically drinking my Americano while everyone else has a beer, and I love I can do that!

WIAW: The Taco That Stole the Show

Happy, Happy Wednesday! I sure do love it when the weekend comes back into sight.

Does anyone else have a long weekend coming up for MLK Day? I’m planning on driving out to the San Marcos Outlets – I’m on the hunt for a new pair of Nikes.

And although it’s still 4 months away, I was super excited about yesterday’s Dave Matthews Band tour dates announcement … kicking off the summer tour in Austin. I can’t waaaait!

Speaking of Austin things… does anyone else struggle when deciding where to eat? Like, there are so many amazing restaurants in Austin that I still want to try. But some days, I’m not gonna lie… I just want Chipotle, Whole Foods or Panera! What’s a girl to do?!

For ‘What I Ate Wednesday,’ I’m sharing one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner, and a snack from this week that took the spotlight. I resisted Chipotle for now, but it’s been a pretty even split of cooked-by-me vs. something I bought. I’ll take it!

Thinking Out Loud: Coconut Milk, Cheap Produce & the Chinese Buffet

Though I’ve been a fan forever, this is my first time joining the Thinking Out Loud party! It’s hosted by Amanda @ Running With Spoons, and is a perfect little almost-the-weekend brain dump. It speaks for itself! 🙂

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Produce is so cheap in Texas. I just bought avocados, blackberries, apples and bananas for $3.65! I love love love Sprouts Farmers Market for this reason. Do you have Sprouts near you?

2. Cold isn’t really cold here. But you won’t hear me complaining! It hit 25 degrees last night, which is very cold for Texas. However, I’m used to sub-zero temperatures, so I’ll take this ‘cold’ any day!

3. It’s amazing what just 1 week of getting back on track will do. Like Kay said, getting back on track after New Year’s was less about “New Year, New Me!” and more about, “oh my God my body needs nutrients.” After a week of solid exercise, meal planning, and zero alcohol on the weekend, I already feel so much better.

4. Sometimes you just need to get your Chinese buffet on. My brother has been pestering me to go for months now, and last night I finally gave in. I forgot to take photos! But the buffet nearby had a pretty decent selection of sushi, spring rolls, pho, vermicelli, salads, salmon, and your classic battered-and-sauce-covered chicken dishes.

5. Kalamata olives were a great investment. Always a pleasure, Trader Joe.

6. “Ice Cream Meetings” are a thing, I guess? Someone asked me to go to a lunch meeting yesterday, but I already had one scheduled. So what did we do instead? Went for ice cream at 2:30 PM. Not questioning it!!

7. Because peppermint mocha lattes are so darn pricy … I’m pretty proud of this snag! : ) Another Sprouts purchase, baby!
