When In Texas… BBQ!

Wow, it seems like forever ago that my parents arrived here in Austin. After a solid 8 or 9 days of them visiting, they are currently headed back home to Pennsylvania. The four of us had a wonderful week together, and I’m very thankful for the time we got to spend!

Yesterday was our last full day together. We spent the morning climbing to the top of Mount Bonnell, then we drove out to Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas. Every time I’ve been there so far the wait has been over an hour, but yesterday we got seated right away! No complaints here. 🙂

I typically do not eat a lot of meat… I basically consider myself a pescatarian. But sometimes, when in Texas, you just need to do some BBQ! 🙂

I usually order a pulled pork sandwich (boring but my fave!), but this time I opted for pork ribs and sausage. It was a good decision! I’ll finish off the leftovers later today.

When it came time to order dessert, I passed as I usually do. But the more we lingered, the more the peach cobbler started calling my name! I ordered a piece to go, and ate it outside. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! 😉

Homemade peach cobbler, hot out of the oven, topped with Bluebell ice cream. It doesn’t get more southern than that!

It was a very indulgent meal. Definitely not something you can do all the time… but worth it! 🙂

Today I’ve got to take care of a few odds and ends and transition back into my regular routine. I’m trying a new workout program tomorrow and excited to report back on it afterwards. Enjoy your Sunday!

Your Turn-

  • Do you like BBQ? What’s the best you’ve ever had?
  • What’s the one dessert you just can’t pass up? (Mine is pumpkin anything… I’m in trouble pretty soon!)
